It is a reddish brown semi-precious gem stone found in Britain, India, Uruguay, Brazil, the Czech Republic, Iceland, Slovakia, Peru, and Romania. Its crystal structure is hexagonal. Carnelian’s red color comes from iron oxide impurities within its silica structure.
History and Folklore
